When I think of blogs I don't really think that they would be used in classroom settings until I read some of the articles about blogging and how teachers use this technology in their classrooms. After reading some of these articles I can really see how they can be useful, like for one blogs are such an easy thing to create and much less difficult than creating a website. They are easy to edit and plus many of your students can reference your blogs from their own home. Not only can they view from home but if they need to collaborate with you or other students they can have access to that. Were as when creating a website the person creating it usually is the only one with access to editing or adding things to it. Some points made in Teaching Today article were really interesting on how education benefits from blogging. I agree that using blogs can create motivation for the students to participate and be involved with. These days technology is our world and students can relate to technology much easier than things like books, etc. Most students are going to use the Internet to look up a word instead of using a dictionary. That is why blogging can create motivation for students because they find it more interesting to follow and participate with.
Another interesting point that was made in the article Teaching Today was that students will write better because they know their peers can view what they write. You can do book reviews or many other kind of assignments that makes it easy for the students to work on at home and comment on their peers work. Plus this can make it less paperwork on your desk as well, which will only make things for yourself more organized. One last point that I think is important is that this allows parents to see a child's work and we all know that sometimes students lose paperwork or forget them at school. Well this allows parents to see what their child is working on in class and also gives the students no reason for them to misplace their work. I think overall using blogs for education is a very useful tool and will only better your experience as a teacher.
Looks like you found a very good resource that exposed some of the appropriate uses of blogging in the classroom. Thanks for sharing, and hopefully you will get an opportunity to apply a few of these suggestions during your Practicum and Student Teaching.
